Motorola Q 9C
Motorola really hit it big in the cell phone market with the RAZR phone. It was sleek and stylish, and boy did it sell. Four years after it came out it is still being sold by nearly every carrier out there. There are a few more models of RAZRs out there; they have adopted a slider version as well. Motorola took their success and looked into an up-and-coming market which in the last year has really taken off, the smart phone market. A couple of years ago they released the Moto Q, which was very popular. It did have some bugs and wasn't the best thing to use, but quickly on its tail Motorola introduced the Moto Q 9C, the second generation of Q smart phones. Motorola hopes to pile success on top of success in the smart phone market. You may remember their RAZR; now they have a smart phone called the Q 9C. Will it become another classic in the field like the RAZR? We put one through its paces; keep reading for our review and verdict.
A smart phone is a hybrid device of a cell phone and a PDA. They come in any kind of form factor from a flip phone to regular PDAs. This phone runs on Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.1 Standard. It just recently got the upgrade to 6.1 where most other devices are still on 6.0. It wasn't that much of an upgrade, but there are some noticeable changes to the UI.
There are two versions of Windows Mobile. One is a Professional that is made for PDA-style devices which have a touch screen. The Q 9C uses the Standard version, which is intended for cell phones; it doesn't offer a touch screen.
The version I am using for the review is the Sprint version. As of the time of writing, Sprint's Q 9C is the only one with the update for Windows Mobile 6.1; other providers are still working on their versions.
What you get
You get your standard stuff: the smart phone, charger, USB sync cable, and instruction books. Sadly, no headphones or microphone came in the package. Come on Sprint, would it be too much to include a crappy set of headphones with it? The charger is the same as the ones Motorola gives out with the RAZR, so if you have one of those sitting around it will work with the Q 9C. The battery is the extended battery; it will last longer than the standard battery, but will also stick out further on the back.
