Samsung YP-T9 Review

The introduction of the Samsung YP-T9 back in late 2006 was Samsung's attempt at defeating the iPod Nano in this highly competitive MP3 player market. Samsung has really put in a good effort at attempting to overtake the Nano, and some people may agree that the YP-T9 is a better overall player than the Nano. Today we'll take a look at this little player and put it through its paces.

There are some definite advantages in owning this Samsung player over a Nano, such as the smaller size of the YP-T9 and the larger screen. The YP-T9 also offers a wide range of features which makes this player tough to overlook when shopping for a new 2 or 4 GB MP3 player.

An updated version of the YP-T9 features Bluetooth capability for a wire-free headphone configuration. The Samsung web site said this model would be released in the first half of 2007 in the United States, but I could not find any evidence to show that this model has been released yet. It is supposed to be introduced in China and then make its way to the U.S.

I was not able to find pricing on this model, but I have heard rumors around the $250 mark. The Bluetooth-enabled YP-T9 should be the same as the parent player, with Bluetooth capabilities added to the list of impressive features. I will keep this review updated with further information regarding the Bluetooth model. Since I don't have a lot of information regarding the Bluetooth model, I will focus on the 2 and 4 GB models in this review.

Both available YP-T9 models are reasonably priced at about $159.99 for the 4 GB model and the 2 GB for around $100. If you are willing to settle for a refurbished model, you can pick up the 4 GB model for about $100. These prices are very competitive, and this should help sales greatly considering you can pick up the YP-T9 for a bit less than the iPod Nano.
